about

after the release of their first EP 'Chaos Theory' in 2013 PsychoDalix have been locked away in their padded cell cooking up their sophomore EP 'No Kids In Africa'.

The Auckland-based duo of Kurt PSYCHO Murray (Cape Town, South Africa) and Seydou DALIX Cisse (Bamako, Mali) bring you this EP from the perspective of African kids living in Aotearoa who have seen both sides of what goes on in First World countries and in western countries.

There's no kids in Africa - any African that is a kid is out here, a stranger in a land so strange

Babies are born all over the world- but once these babies start walking and talking they become classified as kids in the western world. As an African kid you’re forced to grow up much more quickly - having to survive things like starvation and dehydration and cross-fire and AIDS and Ebola and all that stuff that the world knows about and talks about but doesn’t do shit about - these children have to live as adults, exposed at such a young age to more than what most grown men in the western world would experience to in their entire lifetime.

Then coming to a beautiful place like Aotearoa there's still a massive cultural shock to deal with. Anyone that has left Africa older than 6 years gets fun made of the way they speak even if these kids probably speak four or five different languages. Struggling in a distant land to cobble together an identity while completely removed from the context of the African heritage they're trying to reconnect with.
